Dioris Valladares, although known as the "King of the Merengue", plays all the Latin Dance tempos to perfection and for this very reason has been working with his excellent orchestra consistently since 1953. Many rhythms have come and gone (i.e., the tango, the rumba, the cha cha, the pachanga), but due to the big hits Dioris recorded with the late Angel Viloria and his orchestra in the early 1950's, the merengue has become a standard played by all the Latin bands and a favorite with the dancers at the ballrooms. Dioris was born in the Dominican Republic and arrived in New York City about thirty years ago. Before organizing his orchestra, he sang with the big name bands of the 1940's, including Noro Morales, Xavier Cugat, Juanito Sanabria, Anselmo Sacasas and Enrique Madriguera. Beseides being a vocalist and bandleader, Dioris is also a composer and arranger. "Con Pimienta" literally means with pepper, but in Latin musicians' jargon, it means a hot spicy LP full of "Soul".
